I love my work - I use the best traditional
skills, passed down through generations of craftsmen like myself, along-side modern
tools and techniques. People enjoy watching me work, as I mix pigments, carefully
erasing imperfections and a life-time of knocks from loved pieces of furniture.
I don't 'do' modern finishes: just traditional beautiful handiwork that makes
old furniture look as good as new. However, if you require a modern finish I have
colleagues who can undertake this work
Even after all these years I am still surprised at
the wonderful range of projects I have been involved
in. Even this year I have worked on projects as diverse
as mahogany dining room furniture, a Welsh dresser
made from elm, a beautiful barometer, a sturdy old
bedding boxes and little writing bureaux.
As well as the traditional French polishing and repair work I have been pleased
to embark upon architectural restoration projects. A Victorian vicarage has benefited
from ongoing painstaking refurbishment and reinstatement of its extensive internal
carpentry, including shutters and doors as well as architraves, staircases and
so on. The pleasure I have had from seeing the 150 year old workmanship re-emerging
has been great.
All of my customers comment on how there is no mess
left behind after my work... I use freshly laundered
dust sheets, meticulously sealing off the working
area so that your delicate rugs, china etc are not
disturbed. |
